This commercial property in the Concourse section of the Bronx needed more than a patch job. Twenty-one damaged sidewalk slabs, roughly 536 square feet in all, had broken down under years of heavy foot traffic and constant weather exposure. The building serves several local businesses, so the sidewalk sees steady pedestrian activity throughout the day, which meant the work had to get done without shutting the block down or hurting anyone's business. The goal from the start was a repair that would actually hold up, not just look fine for a season.

A Compliance-First Repair Approach

Before any concrete came out of the ground, the crew got the permit process squared away. That meant securing the sidewalk repair permit and pulling an 811 ticket ahead of excavation, so the work area was properly marked before a single slab was touched. Once the damaged concrete was removed, the team compacted the subbase to make sure it could actually support what was going on top of it, then poured reinforcing concrete and finished it with a broom texture built for a sidewalk that sees this much daily use.

What Made This Project Unique

The real work here wasn't just pouring new concrete. It was tying everything together. Proper excavation, permit compliance, a subbase that was prepped right, reinforcing concrete, and the DOT violation-resolution process all had to move in step with each other. Handling the physical damage and the compliance side at the same time is what got this sidewalk back to a safe walking surface, kept the businesses along it running without interruption, and put the property on track to clear its sidewalk violation for good.
